Liposuction

Liposuction or liposculpture

It is the surgical aspiration of fat located below the surface of the skin. During the last few years, liposuction has been the most popular surgical procedure.

Although age constitutes a very important factor to define who is the ideal candidate to undergo liposculpture, the general conditions of the organism are even more important. The ideal candidates are those who have done diets and/or exercises but maintain unsightly deposits of body fat. The patients with overweight can benefit from this procedure, which although it does not represent a method to lose weight, it offers good results. However, ideally, the person should be close to normal weight. There are no absolute age limits to undergo liposuction.

Anesthesia

The type of anesthesia will depend on the surgeon's evaluation of the patient (this includes the patient's build, the amount of fat to be removed, the general conditions and the type of surgical technique). According to these parameters the anesthesia can be general, local or intravenous sedation.

Procedure

Liposuction usually takes 1 to 2 hours, however the time can vary from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the area treated and the amount of fat to be suctioned. The procedure begins when the surgeon makes a very small incision, wide enough to allow the introduction of the suction tube or cannula. The back end of the cannula is connected to a suction machine.

After surgery

After surgery, there may be fluid drainage from the lower wounds for two to three days. An elastic girdle should be worn for several weeks from the time the surgery is completed. Do not expect to see immediate results after surgery. The treated areas will be swollen and you may feel a burning sensation. Pain is controlled with common painkillers. Antibiotics will be indicated to prevent infection.

Every surgical practice involves certain risks. In rare cases the procedure can cause severe trauma, especially if large areas are treated in a single surgical time.

Your new image

Liposuction is definitely a highly effective technique that can give you a new body contour with little scarring. The results can be permanent, depending on your diet and exercise habits. However, if you gain weight again, it will most likely be evenly distributed and not in localized areas.

In recent years, thousands of women and men have benefited from this fabulous surgical procedure. A slim and healthy body will give you more confidence in yourself and greater security in dealing with others.
