Rhytidoplasty

Facial rejuvenation in Santo Domingo

Rhytidectomy or facelift is a surgical procedure that improves the facial appearance produced by the effects of the aging process of the person, by removing fat deposits, fixing facial muscles and folding the skin of the face and neck.

Facelift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as eyelid surgery, forehead surgery or laser surgery. Ideal candidates are men or women whose facial and neck skin has begun to stretch but still maintains good elasticity. Facial rejuvenation surgery can give you a fresher, more youthful appearance, thus increasing your self-esteem, but it does not restore the health and vitality of your youth.

Procedure

The rhytidoplasty procedure takes a few hours, especially if it is performed in conjunction with another facial rejuvenation procedure. Incisions are usually made above the hairline at the temple level, extending to the front of the ears, continuing behind the ear lobe to the lower scalp. If the neck needs to be treated, a small incision under the chin is made.

Generally, the plastic surgeon separates the facial skin from the fat and muscle plane. The fat deposits of the neck and chin can be suctioned to improve the facial contour. Subsequently, the muscle is tightened and the excess skin is resected and sutured. In many cases, a drain is placed at the back of the ears to eliminate any blood loss.
The first 48 to 72 hours after surgery, you may feel some pain or swelling that can be controlled by medications previously prescribed by your doctor. The drain will be removed 2 days after the operation and the bandage the following day or on the fifth day. Most of the stitches will be removed after 5 days.

Recovery is rapid. However, ideally, you should rest for about 2 weeks before returning to your normal duties.

Keep in mind that the change is not immediate. At first your face will look strange due to the swelling, but in about 3 weeks you will notice the change and feel much better. Remember that the aging process continues and this is not a definitive procedure. However, this technique can be repeated again in a few years.

Anesthesia

The type of anesthesia used can be either general anesthesia or local anesthesia plus sedation.

Complications

When this technique is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are rare in rhytiplasty. However, there is always a risk of complications such as hematomas or transient facial nerve injuries.

When consulting your doctor, ask as many questions as you feel necessary. Clarify all your doubts and concerns. Mention if you smoke or take any medications, vitamins or any other drugs that interfere with the clotting mechanism. If you wear your hair short, it is advisable to let it grow to hide the scars after surgery.
